CHARLES AUSTEN HERITAGE RESTORED AT GOODWOOD

Updated: May 8, 2019

In early 1970, Fleetwood Motor Engineers entered a Boss 302 Mustang in the British Saloon Car Championship (now known as the British Touring Car Championship). The car was successfully campaigned by Richard Lloyd and secured 4 wins. In 1974, the car was entered into the Avon Tour of Britain where Lloyd once again drove, sponsored by Simoniz car polish and towards the end of the Mustang’s tour, Castrol Motor Oil and Charles Austen Pumps Ltd.

For the 2019 Goodwood Members Meeting, the car has returned to compete in the Gerry Marshall Trophy, the most anticipated race of the meeting. The Boss took pole position on the Saturday qualifying session and fought an entertaining battle for the lead before an unfortunate incident between the two leaders caused a retirement. We look forward to seeing such an interesting and exciting part of Charles Austen Pump’s history race again next year!
